What is a CPAP Machine?
A Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machine is designed to address sleep apnea by delivering a consistent stream of air pressure through a mask. This aids in keeping the airways open and facilitates smoother breathing during sleep.
What is the difference between CPAP, APAP & BiPAP?
CPAP: Maintains a consistent air pressure to keep airways open during sleep. APAP: Automatic Positive Airway Pressure. Similar to CPAP, but adjusts pressure automatically based on the patient's needs. It can detect changes in breathing and adapt pressure in real-time to meet specific requirements. BiPAP: Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure. Similar to CPAP but delivers two pressure settings: a higher pressure for inhalation and a lower pressure for exhalation. Often used for more complex cases of sleep apnea.
What are the side effects of using a CPAP machine?
Common side effects of CPAP therapy may include: Dry mouth or nose, skin irritation, claustrophobia, nasal congestion or irritation, bloating and abdominal discomfort, headaches. These issues can often be addressed by adjusting the machine settings or incorporating additional equipment. If you experience any side effects, it is advisable to consult with your doctor for guidance.
How to get a CPAP machine without a sleep study?
If the patient qualifies for a CPAP machine based on the test results, they can visit their doctor to obtain the results, but it requires the patient to provide the results to us for verification.
What connects to the CPAP machine?
A CPAP machine is commonly connected to a mask through a tube to administer a continuous airflow for sleep apnea treatment. The mask can be of various types, such as nasal, full-face, or nasal pillow. Additional components include a hose, filter, power cord, and optional features like a humidifier or heated tube.
